Student Awards

We are pleased to announce that two types of student awards, Rowland Hill Awards and The Biointerphase Presentation Awards. The Award ceremony will take place during the Conference Banquet.

In order to submit the application, please send an e-mail to : sims22.grant@siss-sims.com with the subject: “Application for the Rowland Hill Awards” or “Application for the Biointerphase Presentation Awards” and a following attachment: a short CV and your abstract(s) submitted to the SIMS conference combined as a single pdf document.
Students who wish to enter the competition need to submit a letter of support (1 page max) from her/his immediate supervisor. The letter should be emailed by the supervisor as an attachment to sims22.grant@siss-sims.com with the Subject Line: “Application for the Student Awards”.

Rowland Hill Awards

Rowland Hill Awards, sponsored by Ionoptika in honor of Rowland Hill who made seminal developments in SIMS instrumentation, will be awarded in the amount of 50000 Yen each. Awards will be conferred to students who enter the awards competition and make the best oral or poster presentations at the conference. Awards will be conferred to students who are deemed by the judges to have provided the best presentations related to SIMS research.

The Biointerphase Presentation Awards

We are pleased to announce that student presentation awards, sponsored by the Bionterphases journal, will be awarded in the amount of $ 450 (around 50,000 Yen) each by bank transfer. Awards will be conferred to students who enter the awards competition and make the best oral or poster presentations at the conference. Awards will be conferred to students who are deemed by the judges to have provided the best presentations related to biological or biomaterial SIMS research.


The winners should submit a paper to the Bionterphases journal as SIMS 22 Proceedings.

Remarks for Student Awards

Selection will be made based on the supplied documents and a presentation at SIMS 22.

Application process will open on 15 May 2019 and close on 24 June 2019.

The Award can be used to cover the costs of the conference fee, accommodation and/or travel.

Students must register for SIMS22 and give their presentation to receive the Award.

Each supervisor can recommend only one student.

Students can apply to all of the awards, student awards, excellent presentation awards and young scientist awards, but one person is not able to win more than one award.
